The world is full of pictures.
I mean this in several senses. There are a billion digital cameras out there, taking trillions of pictures. Photographs are everywhere, and everyone is a photographer. Yet, the world is still full of pictures waiting to be taken.
The world is also full of words, full of languages and dialects. Many of those words are amplified and shaped by technology, just like photographs. But still there are poems to be found everywhere.
Listen to the wind
Nature flows over and past
People standing still
Stop; take in the view
It has changed again
Since you last stopped
- Haiku by Pearldiver
I have been photographing in a serious way for almost 25 years. My childhood in Oregon instilled me with both a love of trees and a craving for wide open spaces, both of which find a prominent place in my portfolios. In my photography, I make an effort to seek out places and scenes forgotten, overlooked, or rarely photographed.
Photography for me is a process of discovery. Every photograph is a new way to learn about the world, to recognize connections and relationships, and to see my place in it.
I live with my wife Bethany in Northern California.
